An update to the NCDOT de-legitimization of the Japanese Mini Truck in North Carolina.

In July 2018, Mayberry Mini Trucks was informed by the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles that they would no longer participate in the titling of independently imported mini trucks.  Since that time, we have been fighting for the right to continue to title Japanese mini trucks and drive them on North Carolina public roads:

  • In August 2018, Mayberry Mini Trucks and our legal counsel met with the Commissioner of the DMV at the state capitol and began what has turned out to be a lengthy and costly effort to restore the right to title independently imported mini trucks in North Carolina.
  • Although there was initial optimism from DMV leadership, no momentum was achieved.
  • Our next strategy was to involve our NC lawmakers Sarah Stevens in the House and Deanna Ballard in the Senate. Thus far, there have been high-level meetings with NCDOT leaders, who were initially opposed to titling independently imported mini trucks. We are hopeful that our congressional representatives Stevens and Ballard will champion our cause and achieve a repeal of the title ban that has had such a devastating effect on our business.
  • These expensive and time-consuming efforts for repeal have been done for the most part without the assistance of other mini truck sellers, though we desired to create a collaborated campaign.

We are hopeful, though, that through congressional intervention and lobbying, we will prevail, and that Mayberry Mini Trucks, Inc. will become an even stronger entity, more committed than ever to being your long term mini truck expert!
